In March 1992, SHB Hire Ltd was the first vehicle hire company in the country to be awarded the BS5750 Certificate (now replaced by ISO 9001:2008) which we have maintained to this day. In 2012 we achieved OHSAS18001 (Health & Safety) and in January 2013 ISO14001 (Environmental) which means we will be one of the only vehicle hire companies in the country to hold all three simultaneously.

The Health, Safety, Quality, and the Environmental commitments within SHB are key to the success of the business not only in terms of financial and economic success but also in terms of our social responsibility to comply with the law, and promote general awareness within the business and partners along with providing a safe and rewarding working environment for our employees.

SHB has made the decision to commit to this objective by implementing a robust and effective management system and organisation to address:

- The provision of products and services right first time
- Compliance with appropriate legislation.
- Provide a safe environment for its employees contractors and customers.
- Prevent or reduce environmental impacts
- Commit to continuous improvement of systems and processes.

These core policies are further expanded in the management policy statement for each discipline and can be downloaded from this website.

The SHB Directors can confirm and demonstrate pursuit of these policies through their adoption of the three core management standards ISO9001 (quality), OHSAS 18001 (Health and safety) and ISO14001 (Environment) assessed and validated by BSI Group.

Using these three standards, the business continues to develop and improve systems and processes.

In September 2015 we gained the Fleet Operation Recognition Scheme (FORS) Bronze accreditation at our Heathrow depot. We also aim to have all 14 nationwide depots operating to the FORS Silver standard processes and procedures by 30 September, 2016.

FORS is a voluntary accreditation scheme open to all companies operating a fleet consisting of vans, lorries, mini-buses and coaches, and encourages all operators to work to the law and best practices. The FORS accreditation is split into three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold, and offers companies an exclusive range of benefits as well as a competitive edge on the market.
